For Ibukun Akano, CEO of Pelmars Cake Treat, turning a passion for baking into a scalable business meant overcoming the daunting tasks of writing a business plan and pitching to investors. Today, she stands as the grand grant winner of the 2025 Business Master Class (BMC), an initiative by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Lagos Province 35, designed to merge faith with commercial acumen.

Akano was one of several entrepreneurs who recently graduated from the intensive program at a ceremony held at the Power House Auditorium in Gbagada, Lagos. The event was not just a graduation but a celebration of resilience and a launchpad for five promising startups that received business grants.

“This program was transformative,” Akano shared. “It gave me the confidence and the structure I needed. This grant is the key to building a sustainable future for my business.”

The BMC is a core part of the church’s vision for holistic empowerment. According to Pastor Ben Akabueze, the convener of the program and Pastor-in-Charge of the province, the goal is to provide the “power to get wealth.” He explained, “Knowledge is the foundation of wealth creation. We are empowering our people to innovate, create, and build businesses that last.”

The curriculum is meticulously designed to be practical and impactful. Pastor Emeka Obiagwu, who heads the empowerment committee, highlighted its key features: “We provide participants with strategic tools, actionable knowledge, and mentorship from industry experts. It’s a comprehensive ecosystem that includes advisory support, seed grants, and a structured post-training mentorship to ensure their success.”

From eco-friendly packaging solutions to innovative tech and fashion designs, the grant winners reflect a diverse and forward-thinking cohort poised to make a significant economic and social impact. As they embark on their journeys, the graduates carry not just capital, but the knowledge, network, and faith to build enduring enterprises.
